More than coaching.

A philosophy of continuous improvement in sport and in life.

Our Approach

  • Every athlete is unique. Your training plan is built specifically for your goals, fitness level, available time, and life commitments. We adapt to you – not the other way around.

  • Speed comes from efficiency. We place strong emphasis on technique analysis and development across all three disciplines. Learn to move better, not just harder.

  • Training smart means knowing when to push and when to recover. We carefully manage your training load to maximize gains while minimizing injury risk.

  • From pre-race preparation to race-day execution, we develop comprehensive strategies to help you perform at your best when it matters most.

  • Having the right tools matters. We provide guidance on equipment selection and optimization to ensure you're getting the most from your gear.

  • Training shouldn't come at the expense of everything else. We create programs that fit your work, family, and personal commitments – because sustainable performance requires balance.

MEET Coach Macka

While there are many who want to become more active, compete in athletic events or make a commitment to perform at the highest level, the pursuit to achieve the desired outcome requires more than simply adding a few sessions to improve one's aerobic fitness.

Almost all of us have responsibilities outside of our chosen sport and this is vital for coaches to understand. My role is not to simply provide you with a training plan and leave you to your own devices.

No matter where you are at currently, we will work together to achieve the dream of completing a triathlon, a fun run, a marathon, an Ironman, finishing, winning your age group and/or racing at the World Championships. Whatever your dream is, we can work together to make that dream a reality.

When I talk about making a dream a reality I mean having a goal, creating a flexible plan that allows for ongoing growth towards achieving that goal. A goal however focuses primarily on an end point. Together we will achieve far more than crossing that line.

My coaching philosophy is built on the principles of Kaizen – continuous improvement, patience, and balance. I believe that every athlete has untapped potential, and with the right guidance, support, and environment, that potential can be realised.

"My role is to provide guidance, build confidence and create the opportunity for you to develop beyond going faster."

What Our Athletes Say

  • My experience has been outstanding with the Kaizen family and Macka’s coaching and support! I joined Kaizen at a period of my life where I had put on weight and dropped fitness like crazy.

Coach Macka’s slow progressive increase of training was a super accessible way to get involved in triathlon. This made me grow in confidence, motivation, my mood and attitude to everything in my personal and professional life. It has certainly been a change for the better!

    Couldn’t recommend it more!

    Gemma

  • When I stepped into the endurance world for the first time, I had very little experience or understanding of what it truly takes to train for multi-sport events. I was simply looking for some swim lessons to help me prepare for my first triathlon — and that’s when I found Kaizen.

Since joining, I’ve received personalised, technical coaching across swim, bike, and run — but what has made the biggest difference is everything in between. The knowledge I’ve gained on nutrition, training, sleep, and mindset has elevated my approach completely.

Endurance training can often feel long, hard, and lonely. But being part of the Kaizen crew has turned it into something I genuinely look forward to.

My ability, knowledge, and confidence have grown a hundred fold since joining. I truly can’t imagine progressing the way I have without Kaizen and Coach Macka.

    Pas

  • I started training with Kaizen with a goal of completing my first Ironman and maybe making a few friends along the way.

Since then, with Macka I’ve gone on to finish multiple Ironmans and countless triathlons, running events and swimming competitions - together we’ve set and kicked goals along the way. I look forward to seeing what we can continue to achieve together.

But to me what really sets Kaizen apart is not just the coaching, but the community that has been built around it. Kaizen is an environment where athletes train together, support each other, and celebrate each other’s wins. It’s where I’ve made some of my closest friends, and it’s the reason I’m still in the sport.

For someone trying to find themselves in sport, I can’t recommend Kaizen enough.

    Adam

  • After years of following generic online plans and battling recurring injuries, I finally found a coach who listens. Coach Macka's load management approach meant I could train consistently for the first time in years. I went from constantly injured to completing my first Ironman.

    Mark

  • The Kaizen squad is more than just training partners – it's a community. The energy at sessions, the support during tough training blocks, and the genuine friendships I've made have been just as valuable as the coaching itself. We push each other to be better.

    Emma

  • Coach Macka doesn't just coach triathlons – he coaches athletes. He understood my goals, my fears, and my limitations, and built a program that addressed all of them. The regular communication meant I always felt supported, even when things got tough. I've never had a coach who cared this much.
